Individual Assistance (IA) Policy Specialist

The Individual Assistance (IA) Policy Specialist will be responsible for advising and supporting clients on different IA and disaster housing programs / funding streams immediately available after a natural disaster to transition disaster survivors from shelters and provide emergency housing support. A successful candidate for this role should have previous experience in supporting IA program implementation and disaster housing missions.

The Individual Assistance (IA) Policy Specialist will be remote but could also include a travel component based on client needs. The Individual Assistance (IA) Policy specialist will be a contract-based opportunity.

Responsibilities for the Individual Assistance (IA) Policy Specialist Include:

  • Support the client to develop and implement the disaster housing recovery strategy, including advocating for needed resources, developing public communication strategies, and identifying how FEMA's resources will be implemented.
  • Utilize IA policy expertise to establish strategic and tactical recovery program goals and ensure delivery in a timely and cost-efficient manner.
  • Liaise with external partners, government agencies, and community organizations to leverage housing and emergency lodging resources and expertise for project implementation, ensuring alignment with client emergency management priorities and goals.
  • Coordinate the deployment of emergency shelter resources, including tents, mobile housing units, and temporary shelters, to provide immediate relief to displaced populations and ensure access to basic amenities and services.

Qualifications for the Individual Assistance (IA) Policy Specialist Include:

  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience leveraging FEMA IA policy and implementing disaster housing programs.
  • A bachelor’s degree.
  • Proven experience managing projects / programs of various sizes, including development of federal grants, project plans, and creation/maintenance of project budgets.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills and high proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

Compensation for the Individual Assistance (IA) Policy Specialist Includes:

  • Salary range of $85,000 - $150,000. Compensation decisions depend on a wide range of factors, including but not limited to skills, experience and training, licensure and certifications, internal equity, location, travel requirements, and other business and organizational needs.
